About Waroona Dam/Lake Navarino

The Waroona Dam was built on the Drakes Brook with work completed in 1966. The reservoir known as Lake Navarino covers an area of 145 hectares with its primary use being irrigation. It is also used extensively for recreational activities such as water skiing, wakeboarding, freshwater fishing (trout & marron in season and with licence), canoeing and kayaking.

The surrounding forest provides beautiful displays of wildflowers in season. Bush walking is a popular pastime for many visitors and part of the old Bibbulmun Track is still in existence and has been reopened for public use as part of the Munda Biddi Trail. Dogs on leash are permitted. Ten minutes east of Waroona, there is a caravan park with on-site accommodation plus a lakeside camping area.

Suzanne Farcich This is a gorgeous hideaway so close to Perth, yet you feel a million miles away. Situated deep in the bush with varied accomodation to suit everyone and a place where you can still light a fire and sit around at night with the family. Lots of nice walks in and around the dam.
Brad Kettle This is the view from the road that crosses Waroona dam. The reservoir (Lake Navarino) holds a maximum of 15 gigalitres and covers 145 ha when full. The primary use of the water in the lake is for irrigation. The recreational use includes skiing, canoeing, trout fishing and swimming.
Joe Potter We visited Lake Navarino three months ago and I delighted in photographing the rugged bushland the stone toilet block, exploring trickling runoff stream over rocks and fringing vegetation. Shaded tables and benches made lunch a joy, with bird calls as an accompaniment.
