Each year in late winter and spring, the waters off Eurobodalla’s coastline become a busy thoroughfare for humpback whales heading south from their northern breeding grounds to enjoy a summer of intense feeding in the Antarctic Ocean.
This migration has been going on for millennia with coastal Aboriginal people witnessing their passing and perhaps occasionally feasting on a beached whale. Whale watching boat and kayak tours go daily and there are plenty of headlands for land based watching. Montague Island off Narooma is a world class whale watching destination.
Eurobodalla’s famously delicious Clyde River Oysters taste even better when eaten on the water in which they're grown, which happily, is something easily done here.
Great natural locally grown ingredients are just the beginning of the culinary pleasures you can have here in Eurobodalla and the region offers wonderful restaurants, bistros and cafes, many with water views and all along our coastline, in which to enjoy our brilliant seafood.
The range of menu styles is as broad as your own palate, from modern European to traditional Australian, casual to haute cuisine.
You can dine in absolute style, with superb wine lists, or enjoy a home made pie and cake in a historic village café, eat fish and chips on a river cruise or a gourmet catered picnic in the bush.
You can also find Regional Produce at many of Eurobodalla markets. Look out for locally grown oysters, seafood, wine, cheese , olives, fruit, herbs & vegetables and other produce.
Buy fresh or prepared as mouth watering deli products, with organic breads, old fashioned sweets and much more.
Head to the Moruya County Markets and Tilba Growers Markets every Saturday and visit www.eurobodalla.com.au for times of other markets in Batemans Bay and Narooma.
Whether you’re after some serious big game or just a bucketful for the BBQ, Eurobodalla Tourism can help you with advice, or booking a fishing experience with one of our professional fishing charters and guides.
