Bradman’s Birthplace & Captain’s Walk
Cootamundra has a strong connection with cricket, restoring and maintaining the birthplace of the greatest batsman the world has ever known, Sir Donald Bradman.

Granny Scholz, the mid-wife who delivered Sir Donald on 27th August 1908, operated a small private hospital in the front room of 89 Adams Street.

The cottage has sufficient memorabilia to satisfy the most ardent cricket fanatic. Unique to Cootamundra, the Captains Walk features 42 bronze sculptures of Australian Test Cricket Captains, along with Unaarrimim the leading aboriginal player in the first Australian cricket team to tour England in 1868.. A life-sized statue of Sir Donald Bradman in typical cover drive stance takes pride of place alongside busts of Stephen Waugh, Arthur Morris & Ritchie Benaud to name a few.

Milestones Sculptures
Paying tribute to the significance of the wheat industry in the Cootamundra and Wallendbeen areas, the project grew out of a major community achievement that transformed the site using the "milestone" concept. This concept refers to the previous mileposts that were used to mark out distances between small villages and country towns in earlier days. The sculptures are made from cast concrete and use patterns that represent wheat stalks cut from compressed fibrous cement, painted in the soft colour of wheat. Each sculpture is topped with an acrylic panel inlaid with the motif of a huge head of wheat. Fibre optics have been used to light the sculptures making them visible from dusk until dawn.
